Choosing the Right Stroller
When you find out that you are about to become a parent the first thing you do is begin planning for the arrival of your baby. There are so many decisions that need to be made and so much shopping that needs to be done. You will need a crib, a car seat, a change table, diapers, bottles, bath products, clothing and blankets. One of the last items you may think about purchasing is a stroller, but you will certainly need one.
Strollers come in all makes and models and all shapes and sizes. There are prams, walking strollers, jogging strollers, fold up strollers and double strollers. You need to consider how you will use the stroller before you purchase one. Here are few things you should keep in mind when looking for a stroller.
Think about how you will use the stroller. Will you be wheeling your baby around the shopping mall in it or do you plan to take your child with you when you go jogging? Many standard strollers will not stand up to a two-mile run. The wheels are not built for high speeds and there are no springs or shocks for impact. If you plan to use your stroller for exercise you may want to consider purchasing a jogging stroller. They tend to be pricier, but well worth the investment.
If you haven’t already purchased a car seat, look for a car seat/stroller combination. Many strollers these days come with their own carriers and car seats that snap on to the stroller and can be attached to the back seat of the car. These are definitely more economical and practical when your baby is small. If you are purchasing a used stroller do not get one with a car seat because you may not know the history and it may be unsafe.
If you have multiple babies or a newborn and a toddler you will likely want to look at purchasing a double or triple stroller. These strollers have multiple seats to accommodate more than one child. Some strollers have a seat in the front for a toddler or older infant and allow you to attach a carrier in behind.
